The Greenfield-Northwestern football team will be returning one of the most experienced backfields in the area. Seniors Jacob Lansaw and Denver Davenport will have the chance to play out their last six games during this spring season.
The two combined for 21 total touchdowns during their junior seasons as the Tigers (8-3) made the playoffs for the sixth time in the past seven years, falling to Arcola 23-14 in the second round of the IHSA playoffs.
Head coach Joe Pembrook, who is in his ninth season in charge, said those two seniors, plus the rest of the senior class, have made it a little easier for the Tigers to get back into football during the pandemic.

PIASA – The Southwestern Piasa Birds girls basketball team had a nice viewing party planned for the school’s cafeteria Saturday night.
Movie night’s pre-party went according to plan – perhaps even better than planned – with the Birds’ 45-22 victory over the Hillsboro Hiltoppers to clinch the South Central Conference championship.
Southwestern, which had not won the SCC since completing the third of three successive 9-0 seasons in the league in 2016, handed the Toppers their first conference defeat. Hillsboro is 12-3 and 7-1 in the SCC. The Birds improved to 11-1 and close 9-0 in the SCC.
